Song Dynasty: Dai Fu's Poetry Collection: Repeated Exploration of Ancient Melodies and New Ideas

Song Dynasty: Dai Fu, a famous poet from the Jianghu school. His courtesy name was Shi Zhi, and he often lived in Stone Screen Mountain in Nan Tang. He thus styled himself as Stone Screen or Stone Screen Hermit. A native of Huangyan in Taizhou (now part of Zhejiang), he never held office, wandering around the Jianghu before returning home to retire at the age of over eighty. He once studied poetry under Lu You, and his works were influenced by late Tang poetry styles combined with those from the Jiangxi school. Some of his poems expressed patriotic sentiments and reflected people's hardships, carrying significant contemporary relevance.

New Year's Thoughts on Four Poems

In my eightieth year,

I still compose verses.

The years pass like fleeting clouds,

Leaving only memories behind.

I have seen many seasons come and go,

Yet I am still here.

My hair is gray,

But my spirit remains unbroken.

The world outside is vast,

But I remain within these walls.

What use is it to gaze upon distant mountains?

My heart is already at peace.

Spring arrives again this year,

Bringing new life to all things.

The flowers bloom without cease,

And birds sing their sweet songs.

Autumn follows spring without pause,

And winter comes next in line.

Each season brings its own beauty,

We bid each other farewell as we part ways,

An Ode to Autumn Nighttime

Oh! The moonlight shines so bright tonight!
